A living market place, showcasing folk and traditional and regional arts and crafts to create awareness and economic sustain ability for the artisans and practitioners. the Art and Craft Village will give folk craftsmen an opportunity to display their talents and renew general interest for ancient know-how. The Village aims to facilitate collaborations between mainstream designers and artists, and the craftsmen from the Village to produce new ideas and create traditional crafts in a more acceptable and contemporary way, while opening new doors to a new market within Pakistan.
Revitalization
Over the years, successive administrations failed to invest in Pakistan’s cultural heritage which is now for the most part decaying. Recently, UNESCO has embarked on an intensive mapping of all intangible and tangible cultural assets in Pakistan. In line with this ambitious program, the Art Village will give folk craftsmen an opportunity to display their talents and renew general interest for ancient know-how.
Livelihood
This village has been conceived and designed in the true spirit of the “bazaar”, as a place where people exchange ideas and trades. Craftsmen and artists will be able to meet with potential customers directly. A strong emphasis will be put on creating a network involving craftsmen and wholesalers.
